The Australian Customs & Quarantine Process
The Australian quarantine process is extensive, there is an extensive list of items that are prohibited to bring into Australia. Prior to the arrival of your shipment, your shipment will be reported to the Australian Customs Service and Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service departments with the date of your pending arrival.
- Customs will receive appropriate documentation, passport copies & shipping documents prior to the arrival of your shipment. We will forward documents to Customs and arrange clearance by Australian Quarantine. Attached is a downloadable PDF from of the Australian Customs Service - Unaccompanied Personal Effects Statement. This must be completed and submitted to International Sea & Air prior to the shipment of your cartons & furniture.
- A letter will be sent to you to advise you of any changes to the arrival date and any delivery details.
- The Australian Quarantine inspectors will look for insect infestation of timber, pinecones from Christmas decoration, food items, plants, dirt from vacuum bags, shoes and outdoor equipment.
- You will be presented with an account of your shipment by the Australian Quarantine Inspection department. This Australian Quarantine Inspection fee must be paid prior to the release and delivery to your Australian residence.
- Your effects will be picked up from the port or airport and unloaded into a Customs Bonded warehouse with our associated Australian moving company.
- Normal clearance after your effects have arrived is approximately 10-12 business days.
- Motor vehicle customs clearance will require additional steps. A Vehicle Import Approval is required prior to shipping from the U.S.
- Australian movers information:
- need to know if your deliver is above the first floor and if there is difficult access area.
- Services are available to unpack cartons at bench/table top level, meaning that they do not unpack into cupboards.
- Furniture will be placed into rooms specified by you and set up according to instructions.
- We recommend at if you are packing your cartons yourself - that you properly label each box with a name or room.
- Pre-arranged maid & cleaning services are available.
- Pre-arranged handyman or trade person(s) can also be arranged for to assemble furniture and hang pictures.
