About Norway

Norway (officially the Kingdom of Norway) is a Scandinavian constitutional monarchy which contains the western section of the Scandinavian Peninsula, the volcanic island Jan Mayen, the archipelago Svalbard, the uninhabited, sub-antarctic volcanic island Bouvet Island and a portion of Antarctica called Queen Maud Land.

Boasting the 4th highest per capita income in the world, Norway also offers citizens universal health care, a comprehensive social security system and is well known for its stores of petroleum, natural gas, fresh water and hydropower.

In addition to scenic views that include mountains, fjords, volcanic islands and glaciers, Norway is known as the "Land of the Midnight Sun,” because from late May to late July the sun does not set completely below the horizon in areas that are above the Arctic Circle. The rest of Norway has 20 hours of daylight during this period with the sun not rising above the horizon from late November to late January in the North and the remainder of the country receiving shortened daylight hours.

Norway also features a colder climate than most countries and a spectacular view of the Northern Lights, (the aurora borealis).
